A PEDAGOGICAL VISIT TO THE SECRET GARDEN IN THE L2 CLASSROOM

Abstract

The main purpose of this work is to make students be closer to English Literature, learning from it that problems which are faced by characters in a story, have their reflex on real life, so students can take advantage of the knowledge which are taken from Literature, through the development of the four main skills and the use of technologies, for example by using videos, fostering their participation and their motivation, through debates and a role-play, and focusing also in grammatical and vocabulary concerns. Moreover, students will be able to know some general concepts about English Literature and information about one of the most important writer belonging to it, apart from appreciating how important are values such as friendship, healthy food or physical activity. Another goal of the work and its didactic application is that students will not conceive them as something boring or something they must face, but something which is really useful outside the classroom.

El principal objetivo de este trabajo es hacer que los estudiantes se acerquen a la Literatura Inglesa, aprendiendo de ella que los problemas a los que se enfrentan los personajes de una historia tienen su reflejo en la vida real, por lo que los estudiantes pueden aprovecharse de lo que han aprendido a partir de la Literatura, mediante el desarrollo de las cuatro habilidades principales y el uso de la tecnología, por ejemplo con el uso de vídeos, fomentando su motivación y su participación, por medio de debates y de la realización de un role-play, y centrándose también en aspectos tanto de vocabulario como gramaticales. Además, los estudiantes podrán conocer algunos conceptos generales sobre la Literatura Inglesa, así como de una de sus escritoras más importantes, aparte de apreciar la importancia de algunos valores como la amistad, una alimentación sana o el ejercicio físico. Otra meta de este trabajo y de su unidad didáctica es que los estudiantes no los conciban como algo aburrido o algo a lo que ellos deben enfrentarse, sino que lo tomen como algo que es realmente útil fuera del aula.
