EFECTIVIDAD Y UTILIDAD DEL MÉTODO DE DESTETE DIRIGIDO POR EL BEBÉ (BABY LED WEANING) PARA LA ALIMENTACIÓN COMPLEMENTARIA: REVISIÓN INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

[ES] El método de destete dirigido por el bebé ó Baby Led Weaning, tiene como objetivo principal, el autoabastecimiento e introducción de alimentos sólidos una vez cumplidos los seis meses de edad. BLW también se caracteriza por realizar las comidas en familia, e ir sustituyendo la toma de leche, de forma gradual, por alimentos sólidos, en lugar de purés o papillas. El propósito de esta revisión es determinar la efectividad de este método y su modo de aplicación sobre la alimentación infantil. Los hallazgos encontrados tras búsqueda, determinan que el uso de BLW prevendrá la aparición del sobrepeso y obesidad infantil, facilita la adquisición de unos hábitos de vida saludables, así como menor ansiedad materna y mayor duración de la lactancia materna. Sin embargo, es necesaria más investigación dada las opiniones que ponen en duda este método respecto a la calidad dietética y episodios de atragantamiento que conlleva.

[EN] The method of weaning directed by the baby or Baby Led Weaning, has as main objective, the selfsufficiency and introduction of solid foods after the six months of age. BLW is also characterized by family meals, and gradually replacing the intake of milk with solid foods, instead of purees or porridge. The purpose of this review is to determine the effectiveness of this method and its mode of application on infant feeding. The findings found after the search indicate that the use of BLW will prevent the occurrence of overweight and childhood obesity, facilitate the acquisition of healthy living habits, as well as lower maternal anxiety and longer duration of breastfeeding. However, more research is needed given the opinions that cast doubt on this method regarding the dietary quality and episodes of choking entails.
