Title: Musical Dramas to Improve English Speaking Skills in Spanish Secondary Education Schools

Abstract: [ES] El objetivo principal de este estudio es determinar el impacto que puede llegar a tener la participación en un musical escolar en la expresión oral y motivación de un grupo de adolescentes en la asignatura de lengua inglesa. Para ello se tomó una muestra de 48 alumnos cursando 4º de la E.S.O. para comparar el progreso de un grupo implicado en el musical con otro grupo de control. A partir de las pruebas realizadas en este estudio, los resultados muestran que la representación de musicales escolares como herramienta educativa en la asignatura de inglés resulta ser una gran medida que debería incluirse en el curriculum de lengua inglesa.
[EN] The main aim of this research study is to determine the impact that the participation in the performance of a musical drama could have on a group of teenagers’ speaking skills and motivation towards the English subject. For this purpose, a sample of 48 students in their 4th year of compulsory secondary education has been selected to compare the development of a group involved in the performance of the musical drama with another group which did not take part in such an activity. Taking as a reference the different tests which were carried out during the research, the results show that the introduction of the performance of musical dramas in the English subject represents a practical measure which should be included in the English curriculum.
